Sooke Canada Day

Canada Day is a time to show pride in our great nation,
and a time to recognize the youth of the land.

Tamara Draper (on right) was awarded a $1,100 scholarship from Telus, and Justin Illien (second from right) was awarded a plaque from the Sooke Canada Day Society.

The 2008 Youth Awards took place on stage at the Canada Day Celebration in Sooke, BC.



The Sooke Canada Day Society is proud to be acknowledging Outstanding Young Canadians in our area.

Individuals, schools, colleges, universities, community groups and businesses can nominate a young person 18 years and younger who exemplifies the qualities of citizenship that strengthen our social fabric and enrich our national life.

This young person must have made a truly exceptional contribution in any number of areas. This could include, but is certainly not limited to: Community Participation, Promotion of Canadian values, and Sustainable Development Initiatives.

Nomination Rules
* Candidates must be 18 years of age or younger at the time of their nomination.
* Candidates must have made a truly exceptional contribution. A minimum of 100 hours of community service is suggested.
* Nominees must be present at the awards ceremony, or have a friend or relative to accept the award on their behalf.

* Nominations must be received no later than MARCH 8, 2009 to the Sooke Canada Day Society contact Linda Gordon PH 642-6745 or email

* Nominations will then be forwarded to the Canadian Heritage Regional Office for final approval. Awards will take place at the Sooke Canada Day Celebration, July 1 every year.
